VW Sustainability Council @ Open Source Lab

Representatives of VW’s Sustainability Council recently visited Open Source Lab for an exchange about the Lab’s activities and concepts.

The Open Source Lab team discussed with the Council recent findings and future cooperation. I presented a discussion paper I was recently tasked to create as a culmination of understandings stemming from a roundtable discussion hosted by Open Source Lab in April. The paper includes key challenges for mobility behaviour, zero carbon mobility transformations and new mobility governance. The discussion allowed for an exchange of different opinions and experiences. All agreed on the importance of partnerships between private and public stakeholders for progress to be achieved.

In attendance were:

Georg Kell — Founding Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative, and now chairs the Anglo-German asset manager Arabesque Partners.

Michael Sommer — Deputy chairman of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, member of the board of trustees of Volkswagen Stiftung and former chairman of the Confederation of German Trade Unions (DGB).

Yves Leterme — Secretary-General of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) and former Prime Minister of Belgium.

Margo Oge — Former Director of the Office of Transportation Air Quality of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and author of the book ‘Driving the Future: Combating Climate Change with Cleaner, Smarter Cars’.
