tech in cities

Independent research exploring current urban digitization challenges, best practice and emerging ideas.

I've been exploring current progress of technologies reshaping urbanism and over the next weeks will publish the results in this blog to share what I found.

In my last role at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence I felt the lack of reader focused, impartial information sources on technological changes underway in cities needs to be addressed in order to better enable widespread progress for sustainability and human prosperity, to create future cities we want to live in. In the news there is a lack of meaningful context, the why and how, that explains progress being made in 'smart cities', at the same time the wealth of academic research emerging is commonly too dense for most people to engage with. So I undertook some research to try and produce some content that bridges these gaps, and at a minimum enable me to approach these topics in future with greater knowledge.

My findings will be of interest to urban practitioners and anyone learning about or interested in the technology driven changes underway in cities, their implications and how we can shape transformations to create systems that accommodate mutually beneficial future scenarios and innovations.

The reviews provides research insights that explain current progress and challenges surrounding the theme, an interview with an expert, as well as content recommendations to learn more.
